A "Manor" of Speaking: Festive Fall
At Marian Manor, we know what we like. And we know what our community likes! One of our most popular annual events was back with all the joy and excitement it always brings. Our Oktoberfest celebration at St. Gregory the Great Gymnasium did not disappoint our residents, family members, and guests.
Along with falling leaves, the autumn season also brought opportunities to stretch our creative muscles, make memories, visit with area leaders, and more. You can read all about these stories and more in our Fall 2024 Community Newsletter. Download it now or grab a copy at our front desk, while supplies last!
A "Manor" of Speaking: Celebrating 35 Years
If there’s one thing we know how to do at Marian Manor, it’s celebrate! And one of our most popular events each year is our anniversary party. This year’s bash was extra special, because we were commemorating a milestone—35 years of dedicated service to Virginia Beach seniors and their families!

A "Manor" of Speaking: Fun Abounds
Marian Manor may be a senior living community, but we are designed for the young at heart!
Residents got in touch with their inner child during a trip to the recently reopened Hampton Carousel, which was built in 1920. After all, who doesn’t love to take a ride on a carousel?
There were also plenty of smiles during our Cinco de Mayo celebration, featuring margaritas, food, and even a pinata. The Great North American Eclipse brought extra excitement to the season as residents enjoyed this once-in-a-lifetime cosmic event.

A "Manor" of Speaking: Autumn Celebrations
Celebrating 34 Years:
It was a beautiful “evening under the stars” in August as the community celebrated Marian Manor’s 34th Anniversary. Residents, guests, and local dignitaries delighted in dancing and music by Glen Boswick and the Sounds of Swing. Dining services prepared delectable seafood, hors d’oeuvres, desserts, and a tasting of Charmed Cherry wine from our resident vintners.

We’ve also had some big changes in our community that have coincided with the spring season. Several renovation projects have taken place in our building and we are excited to finally have a beautifully updated dining room, new concierge desk, and more.

Spinclusion Featured on WAVY 10 On Your Side
“Remarkable Women” finalist and friend of our community, Diane Hupt, was recently featured on Wavy 10 along with some of our residents! Diane’s nonprofit – Spinclusion – is run by volunteers and provides bicycle rides to seniors (including our very own Marian Manor residents) and other individuals who wouldn’t be able to ride on their own. Our residents love the opportunity it provides to be outside and experience their community and the nature around them. Click here to view the full story on Wavy.com.
Congratulations, Diane, for your nomination as a “Remarkable Woman.” You are truly amazing to us!
A "Manor" of Speaking: Winter Fun
Winter is a magical time – the weather may be cold, but our hearts are warmed by the spirit of the holidays and all the exciting festivities of the season!
This winter, we were thrilled to have Santa himself (and a very special Mrs. Claus) to help us celebrate. Families and friends gathered ’round to spread Christmas cheer and to spend time with the famous couple.
Other momentous occasions – including the homecoming of a beloved team member, a 100th birthday, and special connections between new friends – are featured in our latest newsletter. Click here to download the Winter issue of A “Manor” of Speaking.

A "Manor" of Speaking: Let Freedom Ring!
Marian Manor residents and team members have been making the most of their summer months.
Our Fourth of July event was a blast with lots of red, white, and blue to go around! Celebrating our patriotism is a privilege we embrace year-round, but it’s especially meaningful on Independence Day.
Residents have also been seen baking seasonal pies (which have been shared with everyone!) and basking in the sun during scenic bike rides around the Virginia Beach boardwalk. But don’t worry – it’s not just residents who’ve been embracing summer. Our team members have been enjoying special summer treats as a thank you for all they do.
Read all about these stories and more – including our upcoming September and October events, in the latest issue of A “Manor” of Speaking.

Marian Manor Leverages New Technology: Linked Senior Case Study
Our community is known for the creative and meaningful ways we keep residents engaged and active – mentally, socially, physically, and spiritually. And while “cutting-edge technology” may not be what comes to mind when you think of a senior living community, that’s exactly what we credit for our interdisciplinary success in enhancing resident engagement.
We have recently invested in Linked Senior to improve our staff-to-resident engagement ratio. Linked Senior is a simple mobile technology that helps senior living communities deliver meaningful, person-centered care.
With the implementation of Linked Senior, Marian Manor has been able to efficiently engage staff from all departments in more direct, individualized interactions with residents, with amazing, measurable results. In fact, the new technology has allowed us to increase our staff-to-resident engagement almost four times by eliminating time previously needed to research and prepare activities!
Linked Senior has been so impressed by our interdisciplinary approach that they selected Marian Manor for a recent case study: Click here to download a PDF of Linked Senior’s case study on Marian Manor and learn more about this program’s success in our community.

Meet Our Therapy Dog, Dulce
Have you heard? Our very own dog, Dulce, is now certified as Marian Manor’s Therapy Dog! It is rewarding to see our residents receive the unconditional love that Dulce gives so freely.
Therapy dogs provide health benefits beyond what we could have ever imagined. Physically, a therapy dog can help improve cardiovascular health and lowers blood pressure. Mentally and emotionally, therapy dogs encourage communication, decrease anxiety, lift spirits and lessen depression. Dulce provides comfort and support while engaging people. Dulce is the community’s faithful companion and works with us in various capacities.
Marian Manor is a pet-friendly community, with several residents sharing their apartment with their furry best friends.

The Legacy Sessions
The Legacy Sessions, a project by Senior Living Guide of Hampton Roads, won the 2nd Place Award of $3,000 for the Best Practices competition from the Commonwealth’s Council on Aging. The effort brought together 32 theater students from Salem High School with residents from Marian Manor Assisted Living, both in Virginia Beach, to promote understanding and appreciation of older adults. We also received a certificate of recognition from Governor Ralph S. Northam signifying the month of May as Older Virginians Month in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Marian Manor Celebrates 30 Years
In August 2019, Marian Manor celebrated 30 years of exceptional senior care and service to families with a special evening event. “An Evening Under the Stars” featured a wonderful spread of hors d’oeuvres and desserts, as well as delicious cocktails. Residents, guests, and team members enjoyed music performed in the dining room by the Hampton Roads Metro Orchestra.
Special guests included Virginia Beach Mayor Bobby Dyer and Television Anchor Beverly Kidd from WTKR 3.
Attendees received a commemorative Marian Manor stemless wineglass as a parting gift.
